Standard Package (No Additional Monthly Charges)

A variety of feature options are available when you sign up for telephone service with Communications Services. The Standard Package is included at no extra monthly charge with your standard telephone service.

For information on how to use your custom calling features, see Detailed Dialing Instructions.

Call Hold

Allows you to place a call on hold, and then resume the conversation. A call may be taken off hold from another extension of the same telephone line. (Compare with Call Park.)

Call Transfer

Call Transfer allows you to transfer a call to another number. Note: If you transfer a call to a non-campus number, such as a cell phone, your line will incur any applicable charges.

Call Forward

Call Forward allows you to redirect all incoming calls to another number, or directly to your voice mailbox, if you have one. Note: If you forward calls to a non-campus number, such as a cell phone, your line will incur any applicable charges.

Three-Way Calling

Three-Way Calling allows you to include a third party on an outgoing call. Note: If you include a non-campus number, such as a cell phone, your line will incur any applicable charges.

Station Hunting

Hunting (Rollover Lines) is placed on individual telephone lines that make up a group, also known as a hunt group. Hunt groups are a series of lines organized in such a way that if the first line is busy the next line is hunted and so on until a free line is found. There are two types of hunting, serial and circular.

  • Serial: Serial hunting searches for available lines from the top of the group down. Each incoming call always starts at the top of this group and is rolled to an available line in that hunt group. If the call reaches the last line in the hunt group sequence it does NOT roll to the first line in the hunt group. Note: The last line in a serial hunt group does not need hunting because the last line does NOT roll to the first line in the hunt group.
  • Circular: In Circular hunting, the switch has the ability to remember the last line it connected, and starting there, it hunts down to the next available line. Once the last line in the hunt group is reached, it rolls to the top or the first line in the hunt group. It does NOT continue to roll after completion of the loop. Essentially, the available lines are searched for in a circle. Note: All lines in the hunt group MUST have hunting on them because Circular hunting rolls to the top or first line again.

Hunting is useful in an office where multiple individuals may answer incoming calls.

Call Pickup Group

Allows you to answer incoming calls directed to extensions within your specified pickup group, without your needing to know the ringing station's extension number. This is useful in an office where several people may answer each other's calls.

Standard Package

The Standard Package includes the following features.

Call Park

Places a call on hold so that it can be retrieved from any other telephone in the campus system. Once the call has been parked, your telephone line is available for reuse. Call Park is useful in an office for allowing a call to be handed off to another telephone line even though that telephone line may be in use. (Compare with Call Hold.)

Redial (##)

Allows you automatically redial your last call by lifting the handset and dialing ##.

Camp-On with Callback

If you call a campus 893 number and it is busy, you can invoke Camp-On With Callback. When the busy number becomes available, your phone will ring. When you pick up your handset, the called party's number will ring, and when they answer your call will be connected.

Call Return (*69)

Allows you to dial your last caller automatically when you do not get to your telephone in time, or do not answer Call Waiting. This feature works for all on-campus and off-campus calls where the caller's number is not blocked.

Call Waiting (Optional)

If you are already engaged in a call, a tone will notify you of an incoming call. You may then place the existing call on hold while you answer the waiting call.

Cancel Call Waiting (Optional)

Allows you to cancel Call Waiting for the duration of a single call.

Line Appearances

Allows you to include multiple extensions programmed on buttons allowing for ringing options and busy lamp indication for each extension.

Softphone

There are two versions of the MLC client: (1) Legacy MLC and (2) MLC.

  1. The Legacy MLC has been available for the PC/Win, Mac, iOS and Android platforms-- It requires a VPN connection. The MLC mobile client for iOS and Android will need a campus VPN connection on the smartphone in order to connect. The VPN client is also required for the MLC softphone client on the PC/Win and Mac platforms if you are not on a campus network (128.111.x.x). Even if you are on the campus WiFi, you still need a VPN connection.

  2. The new MLC client does not require a VPN connection, instead, it connects to an SBC gateway that encrypts the connection. The usnMLC client has been tested using the PC/Win and the Mac platform. The iOS and Android clients are not supported with the MLC at this time, but it will be available soon. The MLC licenses are provisioned per activated extension. A softphone PC client and a softphone mobile client registered with the same extension are considered one license.

There is a $40 one-time charge for each softphone client.

Mobility (Included in the standard VoIP license)

The Mobility features include contact rules depending on your defined status (ie. only ring the deskphone/MLC or both your deskphone/MLC and your cell phone), and instantly moving a call from your deskphone/MLC to your cell phone and vice versa. The MC550 mobile client can also be used to place a call to an outside party using your work number (805-893-nnnn) rather than your personal cell number (cellular minutes apply).

Feature Package 3000

Feature Package 3000 contains all the features available in the Standard Package, and also provides Incoming Caller ID capability, if you have a telephone with a screen that is capable of displaying Caller ID.

Caller ID with Call Waiting allows you to view the listed name, telephone number, date and time of a second incoming call while the line is in use. This gives the customer the choice of answering or ignoring the second caller.

Note: Some telephone instruments may not support the full Caller ID feature set. Please test Caller ID functions on your telephone once service is installed.

VoIP Feature Package 3000

VoIP Feature Package 3000 contains all the features available in Feature Package 3000. The mobility features are only included in the one-time standard VoIP license charge.
