Two-Way Radios

two-way radios

Service Description

Communications Services manages access to the UCSB 800MHz radio frequencies. Two-way radios are an important part of the campus's life safety services. To avoid interference with those services, departments must consult the Communications Services Operations Manager (extension 7222) before purchasing any two-way radios or bringing them onto campus for use.

Communications Services also processes, reviews, and maintains all Federal Communications Commission licenses for the use of campus two-way radios, in accordance with UC Office of the President policies and procedures. For information about FCC licenses, call our Operations Manager at extension 7222.

NOTE: UCSB departments using two-way radio systems other than the campus 800 MHz system need to be aware of the FCC Narrowbanding Mandate that goes into effect January 1, 2013.

For Further Information

Communications Services offers technical support only for the campus 800MHz radio system. To obtain a price quote or to order radio equipment, contact our Motorola Manufacturer Representative.

For details on radio types, costs, and ordering, please see 800MHz Frequently Asked Questions.

For radio communications etiquette and conventions, see Guidelines for Using 800MHz Radios.

For instructions on using Motorola 800MHz radios, please consult the appropriate user guide:

For additional information, call our Customer Services section at extension 8700.
