Standard VoIP Line - license Information:
Both the Standard VoIP Line and the VoIP Line w/ Enhanced Mobility requires a phone. Currently, we are only offering the MLC which includes both the softphone application for PC or Mac or mobile app for iOS and Android. Deskphones are not supported at this time.
VoIP Line w/ Enhanced Mobility - license adds the following mobility features:
Single-number reach using contact rules. This allows you to define up to 4 devices to ring as defined by contact rules and based on your status. For instance, you may create a "Mobile" status that just rings your cell phone, or "At Desk" status that just rings your MLC softphone or have it ring both. You may also instantly Move calls from your cell phone to your MLC softphone and vice versa. The mobility feature includes the UC700 application (used for creating contact rules) and the MC550 mobile client.
The NEC MC550 mobile client is a cellular mobile client and includes single-number reach contact rules. Since the MC550 is cellular-based, roaming is not an issue as long as there is cellular coverage. Moving calls to and from the MLC to the MC550 client works very quickly.
VoIP Softphone and Mobile Clients:
The MLC is offered as both a softphone and mobile client.
The MLC softphone client supports PC and Mac. The end-user is responsible for low latency Internet connectivity for best performance. When connected via a departmental network, the necessary ACL ports must be open supporting VoIP service (UDP/TCP source and destination ports available upon request).
The MLC mobile client supports iOS and Android. The iOS or Android client currently requires Pulse Secure VPN to connect to the campus telephone system. The MLC mobile client is subject to dropped calls and registration disconnect/reconnects when service switches from WiFi to LTE or when roaming on the campus WiFi.
Deskphone Clients
VoIP Deskphone service is currently not being offered. VoIP service for deskphones will require an appropriately-sized UNET switch with Power over Ethernet (PoE) ports for each desk phone instrument. When this service is available, the UCSB NOC will assist in providing an estimate and the installation/configuration of the network equipment required to support VoIP desk phone instruments.
